Do thermal carafe coffee makers save energy?
You know, the kind without the hotplate. Oh, and do they continue to still draw lots of energy after the coffee is finished brewing? How exactly do they work?
The idea behind the design of these coffee makers is to eliminate having the coffee sit on a warming plate after brewing. After 10 minutes or so, the coffee takes on a burned flavor. The carafe coffee makers instead brew the coffee into the carafe where it is kept hot for a couple hours or more.
They save energy in that the coffee maker shuts off after the brewing cycle rather than stay on the keep the coffee hot on the warming plate.
